Our Sign

Our building is located on a main thoroughfare in our community.  We put up a lighted sign many years ago to post events to let the community know what is happening at our congregation and sayings to encourage them as they drive by.  At least a couple of times a month someone stops by to tell us that our sign just really touched them or has helped them through some really trying times.  God can use anything to reach out to those who need Him.

Here is what is on each side of our sign this week:

God speaks to those who take the time to listen.

Headed in the wrong direction, God allows U-turns.

Neurobehavioral Approach to Parenting

Saturday, April 13, 2019

3:00-5:00 p.m.

Hosted by: Southwest Church of Christ

Eileen Devine, LCSW is a therapist who works with parents across Oregon through her private clinical practice, FASD Northwest. She has over a dozen years of clinical experience, with a special emphasis on working with families impacted by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and other brain-based (neurobehavioral) conditions that have challenging and confusing behavioral symptoms.

Eileen’s workshop will provide information on how to support loved ones from a neurobehavioral lens; specifically, how pre- and post-natal traumatic events can impact brain structure and functioning, resulting in a physical brain-based disability that is often invisible to the rest of the world. The workshop will focus on the behavioral symptoms that are a direct result of these brain changes and some strategies parents and caregivers can use to help their children and loved ones experience less distress and more calm in their environments.

The workshop will include:

• An overview of brain function (what our brains do for us every day!)

• How and why brains that have endured pre-and post-natal toxic stress function differently

• How parents and caregivers can begin to support from a neurobehavioral lens, specifically figuring out what specific brain tasks their child has difficulty with and how to successfully support them

• The connection between brain function and (challenging) behavioral symptoms

• How our values and beliefs factor into our ability to support from a neurobehavioral perspective

• How to create accommodations for their child or loved one to reduce the individual’s behavioral symptoms and build a stronger connection with them in the process.

This event is free, but we need everyone to register here:
