Southwest Preschool

2008-2009 Registration form

Southwest Preschool

Southwest Preschool offers classes for 3 and 4 year olds on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the fall and spring. Classes, consisting of no more than 15 students, are available in the morning or afternoon.

Mission
To plant a seed in children’s hearts by teaching them God’s Word and His love for them

Requirements
Children must be 3 by Sept. 1 and must be potty trained.

Fees
A one-time nonrefundable registration fee of $50 is required. This does not guarantee a spot in class.  If we are full, you will be placed on a waiting list and still charged the fee, no exceptions.  There are no tuition charges or monthly fees. Teachers and helpers are volunteers from the church. The church provides for other costs incurred throughout the year.

Parent involvement
Parents are expected to provide snacks and some school supplies during the year, and must also accompany their child on the field trips.

Classes offer . . .
 • an awareness of God and His love
 • Bible-based curriculum
 • programs for parents that include a Valentine Tea, Christmas program and closing
   program
 • an atmosphere of love, acceptance and individual recognition through art
expression (paint, clay, crafts, music), oral expression (drama, puppets, “show and
tell”), active listening (to others, to Bible stories, to music), nature appreciation
(animals, plants, foods, seasons) and play time.

A minimal amount of kindergarten readiness skills are taught to prepare children to enter school in the fall. Skills may consist of (but are not limited to) cutting, pasting, name writing and letter recognition.

Field trips
Field trips throughout the year are designed to enhance a child’s awareness and learning skills. Some have a minimal cost to parents.

Mom’s Time Out
Mom’s Time Out, a ministry for mothers of children enrolled in the preschool, provides opportunities for Bible study to help develop the spiritual guidance of a God-centered home and family life.

The group meets typically on the first Thursday of the month, but may vary occasionally depending on field trips.

Childcare is provided in an attended nursery.

History of the preschool
Cornia Carroll started the free preschool in 1990 to reach out to the surrounding community and spread God's love. Thirteen children, some of whom already attended church at Southwest, were enrolled in the first class. Sixty children now are enrolled plus a waiting list.

God has blessed this school, the teachers and helpers, and most important, the many children and families who have attended. Our hope is to reach many, many more in the years to come.
